Why send your child to a catholic school

At Catholic Schools, preparation for college is a clear goal and Catholic School graduates are often pursued by prestigious colleges. Self-discipline — The emphasis on external discipline in Catholic schools is intended to teach internal, self-discipline. Students are expected to accept responsibility for their actions, to respect others and to make good decisions in the context of their faith experience.

Christ as a model — The goal of a Catholic education is to help children mature into Christ-like people. Students are encouraged to recognize the presence of Christ in themselves and others. Here's what we know. Let me demonstrate how Catholic schools used science and reason during this pandemic. First, when the pandemic started, our school was able to immediately switch to an online format without missing a day because we had already developed one after the academic year when we lost 20 days of instruction due to snow and cold weather.

Next, our school spent every day over the summer working toward one goal: in-person education. It figured out a way to upgrade its air circulation and filtration systems; it designed multiple teaching options, from full online school to a hybrid model to a full in-person model, so it was prepared for multiple scenarios. Then came August. The schools did this while spending a fraction of what public schools allocate on a per pupil basis; our teachers and staff are paid less than their public school counterparts, and we still operated buses to transport children to and from school.

The results are in. Our school and the Catholic schools of the archdiocese have shown zero evidence of furthering the spread of the virus. The Jefferson County public health director said this herself in testimony to the public school board months ago. This is consistent with the preponderance of evidence from school districts that followed protocols but stayed open across the country.

If the rules were followed, both public and private schools did not contribute to the spread and were able to continue with their typical curriculum.

In this environment, SBA students are encouraged to strive for their maximum academic potential and spiritual growth. In keeping with this mission, students are encouraged to 1 Strive academically, 2 Build character, and 3 Achieve their goals.
